Participate in the 2024 National Carer Survey

Have your say to influence change and be in the draw for a $200 Gift Voucher! Victorian Carers are invited to have their say by completing the National Carer Survey.

The National Carer Survey is conducted every two years and is open to all carers across Australia, in partnership with the Carer Organisations in each state and territory, including Carers Victoria. The results are one of the most important data sets we have to demonstrate who carers are, how the carer population is changing, and what’s most important to them.

1. What is the National Carer Survey?

The National Carer Survey is conducted every two years and is open to all carers across Australia. The Survey is funded by the NSW Government and led by Carers NSW, with the support of the Carer Organisations in each state and territory of Australia.
For more information on the National Carer Survey, please visit www.carersnsw.org.au/research/survey

2. Who can respond?

All carers (and former carers) living in Australia who are aged 16 years or older can respond to the National Carer Survey.
A carer is anyone who provides care and support to a family member or friend who lives with a disability, mental illness, alcohol or drug dependency, chronic condition, terminal illness or who is frail due to age. This does not include people who care for someone as part of their work or as a formal volunteer, or people who have parental responsibility for a child that does not live with a disability, health condition or mental illness.

3. How can you respond?

The 2024 National Carer Survey can be completed in two ways:
1. Online using a desktop computer, laptop, smart phone or tablet (from 1 June 2024) at: https://www.research.net/r/2024NationalCarerSurvey
2. On paper in a printed booklet. Paper copies will be distributed widely by the State and Territory Carer Organisations, and can be requested by contacting the Carers NSW Research team:
Email: research@carersnsw.org.au Phone: 02 9280 4744
Order form: www.surveymonkey.com/r/2024NCS_EOI

4. When can people respond?

The 2024 National Carer Survey will be open from 1 June 2024 to 31 July 2024. Carers who receive a paper copy of the 2024 National Carer Survey in the mail before 1 June 2024 can complete the Survey as soon as they receive it, either online or on paper.

5. How long does it take to respond?

Not all questions in the 2024 National Carer Survey will be relevant to every carer. Carers are invited to skip the questions and sections that are not relevant to them.

Responding to the 2024 National Carer Survey should take around 20 to 30 minutes for most carers.

First Nations carers and young carers have previously asked for a shorter version of the National Carer Survey. This year, these carers can choose to complete only the first few questions if they prefer, up to the end of the relevant section: ‘For First Nations carers’ or ‘For young carers’.

6. Why should you respond?

Participating in the National Carer Survey is a great opportunity to share your experiences, concerns and ideas to be heard by decision makers. Results from the National Carer Survey have been used in policy submissions and government reports, conference presentations and Parliamentary hearings, journals articles and books to raise awareness and advocate for carers. For more information please see www.carersnsw.org.au/research/survey.

Participants can also enter a prize draw to win 1 of 24 x $200 Prezzee gift vouchers, which can be used at a wide range of retailers.

7. How will responses be used?

Responses to the 2024 National Carer Survey will be grouped together and analysed as a whole, without identifying the people who responded.

Names and contact details are only collected from carers who choose to enter the prize draw or be contacted about the next National Carer Survey. This information will be separated from other responses and only used for these reasons.

The first results from the 2024 National Carer Survey will be published in October 2024, followed by a full report in early 2025 and a detailed First Nations carers report in October 2025.
